AHEPA was established by eight visionary Greek immigrants who sought to combat discrimination, such as Ku Klux Klan hostility toward Greeks in the South, and to support their fellow immigrants’ pursuit of the American Dream. The organization emphasized the principles of education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence.
In its early years, AHEPA served as a fraternal organization that helped Greek immigrants adapt to their new homeland, teaching English, providing citizenship classes, and encouraging civic engagement.
AHEPA is now an international organization with chapters in the U.S., Canada, Greece, Cyprus, and other countries, continuing its mission to celebrate Hellenism, promote education, and advocate for human and civil rights.
