AHEPA Chapter 286 proudly honors the founding lodge and the devoted men whose vision, service, and brotherhood established a legacy that continues to guide our chapter today.
Our history began with the first preliminary meeting held on October 15, 1931, in Annapolis, Maryland, under the leadership of George Thormaides, President of Washington Chapter 31. On that same day, the first initiation was held, and fifteen men were welcomed into the AHEPA Order, while ten additional members joined through transfer into Academy Chapter 286, known today as AHEPA Annapolis Chapter 286.
We gratefully remember the founding members and early brothers of our chapter: Thomas Nichols, James Fotos, George Pappas, John P. Lewnes, Richard B. Orrell, Theodore Nichols, Theodore N. Samaras, Sam Lewnes, John T. Mooseles, Peter Conits, John G. Lewnes, Gust Agapitos, Arthur Economou, Louis Laou, Nick Manis, Nicholas J. Mandris, Nick J. Camberis, James Leanos, Vasilios Leanos, James Pistolas, Constantine P. Cardes, Nick Pappas, Marcus J. Lucas, Petros Leo Pappadakos, and Louis D. Mandris.
We also honor the first officers of the lodge: President Thomas Nichols, Vice President Theodore N. Samaras, Secretary James Fotos, and Treasurer Theodore Nichols.
These men built more than a chapter. They built a brotherhood rooted in faith, heritage, civic responsibility, and service to others. Their dedication laid the cornerstone for everything Chapter 286 has become, and their example continues to inspire us as we carry their mission forward for future generations.
